eComStation and business

2006-01-30 13:08:46 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

AMT company continues the development of industrial software working in eComStation.

Read the overview of "SimulNet: Server of network training systems" (russian language)

  • Server side of the training system is working in eComStation (Preparation of tasks, log of progress are controlled via WorkPlace Shell)
  • Client side works via Java virtual machine, so can be executed in eComStation too.

"eComStation and business" is updated:

  • New section "eComStation in sci-tech labs"
  • The list of companies working on eComStation is updated (companies which do not release updates of software, will be removed from the list)

JUne in January

2005-12-14 23:20:26 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

New versions of JRescuer and JUne are released.

The development of JFS recover tools was started in 2001. Read more about "JFS for eComStation" (included with eComStation 2.0 beta).

Seems that the most provident users have acquired the JFS recover and unerase tools, so the price of JRescuer may be released (it will be doubled at the 1-st january of 2006).

Let's gather solutions based on OS/2

2005-12-02 19:32:54 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

Whatsnew:

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive.

Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA), CMMS, restaurants, etc.

Why should you write the story today?

  • You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
  • OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about your company and products among own colleagues.
  • The developer of the operating system will get information about your requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
  • Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
  • It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.

Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions list since 2002. Now it contains texts on russian language only but you can publish german, dutch, english texts there.

How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add Introduction, add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2 advertisement photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating usage of OS/2. Send the story to e-mail: support (at) ecomstation.ru

Welcome to homepage of solutions!

Support Agreement (12 months) for OpenOffice.org for eComStation and IBM OS/2

2005-11-30 23:52:03 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.com]

Effective date: November 4, 2005

To better support the desktop requirements of eComStation and IBM OS/2 users, Serenity Systems International is announcing the availability of 12 month support agreement for OpenOffice.org. As part of the support agreement, users will receive versions of OpenOffice.org developed and tested to run on eComStation and IBM OS/2.

Initially, users will be able to download OpenOffice.org Version 1.1.5, significant update over the current 1.1.4 version. Key features of 1.1.5 include support for OASIS file formats, as well as fixes listed at release notes page.

Support for OASIS file formats provides OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 users with the ability to exchange documents with wide variety of other products, including the recently released OpenOffice.org Version 2. eComStation and IBM OS/2 users can expect full OpenOffice.org Version 2 support in 1Q06, possibly beginning testing before the end of 2005.

Fixes and updates will be delivered over the term of the agreement as part of the on-going support. For example, the initial support for OpenOffice.org Version 2 will not include WorkPlace Shell (WPS) integration. Plans call for WPS integration to be supported in one of the first updates for 2.0. As implied by this statement regarding WPS integration support, the Version 2 product supplied under this agreement will be native OS/2 application.

The Suggested Retail Price of the Support Agreement is $49US for 12 months. Registered users of the current OpenOffice.org product for eComStation and IBM OS/2 will be able to purchase the Support Agreement for $29US. See http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice

Press-release about the development of a new eComStation system component eSchemes

2005-11-29 18:55:34 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [eCo Software, press-releases]

eCo Software, december 1th, 2005
Download PDF version

eCo Software announces the development of the eComStation eSchemes system component, which will allow the user to tweak and tune system appearance, from one single application.

eSchemes is developed with Mensys BV technical and financial assistance. eSchemes is part of the ongoing effort of eCo Software to develop applications by using an object-oriented approach in software development for the eComStation operating system. eSchemes was created using SOM technology and is fully integreated into the system desktop.

A scheme can contain sets of pointers, sounds, in addition to information about colors of system appearance, and lets the user to configure parameters both of single objects and entire classes. Thanks to the fact that the scheme is stored as a single file, a scheme is mobile and can be easily transferred from one computer to another.

Apart from that, the problem with incorrect display of some system controls will be resolved in eSchemes, because it can change the main color in the system appearance, which was previously fixed at grey.

Yury Prokushev, eCo Software leading engineer, proclaimed: "eSchemes greatly increases efficiency of system control. During the next years we anticipate to improve the situation in development of component applications."

Joachim Benjamins (Mensys BV) considers that "development of new components for eComStation was started back in 2002. We are glad that eSchemes will now form another milestone in the development of the eComStation infrastructure which provides a professional looking userinterface and adds to the unique abilities of the Workplace Shell"

We recommend companies to update their software today, to use all eSchemes abilities. eCo Software will soon publish detailed information about necessary changes and recommendations for application development.

eSchemes will be available for all eComStation 1.2 users (and next versions) for free.
