Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092

Mark: Good

I had a problem installing the eCS 1.2 media refresh. It would not install. I installed with my original eCS 1.2 installation disk. I am presently using Scitech 3.13 video driver and have my resolution set to wide screen support (1440 x 900).

Since the notebook comes with the 100 GB harddrive formtted in one single partition, I used the program Partition Commander 9 to shrink the partition down and to divide it into 3 more additional partitions and during installation, installed Boot Manager at the end of the drive.

Installing the latest Uniaud driver from Netlabs over a previous release gave me sound. Notebook comes with Realtek AC97 Audio card.

I am using one of the Realtek network card drivers (Realtek RTL8139/810X driver) and have no problem accessing the internet with my ADSL modem.

Naturally, the modem (toshiba software modem) isn't supported by eCS and am not sure about the wireless hardware (Intel(R) Pro/Wireless). At this time, I don't believe it is.

This model comes with a DVD-RAM drive. I haven't tested this yet under eCS. However, I don't forsee any problem.

Cons:

  • The "shift key" is extremely small. It is easy to hit the wrong key if not carefull.
  • The scroll pad can only be turned off by software support in Windows. No off/on button on the notebook itself.
  • No modem or wireless drivers for eCS.

Pros:

  • Once eCS 1.2 was installed, the system has been extremely stable.
  • USB is provided by EHCI/UHCI controllers
  • I enjoy the 17' screen with the wide screen resolution of 1440 x 900.

Someone stated the following in the ecs networking news forum.

"I have modified the LINUX WPA-Supplicant to work with my GENMAC. I have testet

it with Intel-2100 , Intel-2200 , Atheros and Broadcom . It works !"

However, as to how to get this driver, I have no idea. This notebook comes with the Intel wireless 2200BG.

I have also discovered that the touchpad can be disabled from the keyboard by using the following key combination FN+F9.
