ASUS P7P55D-E Pro
Mark: Average First, I had to flash the latest BIOS from the ASUS website (version 1602).
The BIOS version that came with the MB was otherwise unstable. After so
much usage it would tell me that the boot device was unbootable (the eCS
installation CD) and to pick another device. This was true dispite the
fact that the CD drive was the first boot device in the BIOS.
Next, I could not get MiniLVM (MLVM) to create and save an installable
volume on its own. As a workaround I used a cloned installable volume
from my current eCS machine (version 1.14). DFSee was invaluable for
cloning hard drives and partitions.
I had to use the "Boot with own values" option on the installer.
On the boot menu I selected "DaniS506 driver in Compatibility Mode",
deselected "Amouse" and selected "Extended CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD Device Manager".
I could not use a floppy disk to load other drivers, such as DaniS506
version 1.8.7. When I attempted to do so, the system would tell me that
it could not find bootable media, when the installer had to be re-engaged
after selecting and saving my boot menu selections. I believe this is a
problem with the ASUS MB and not the eCS installer.
I could not migrate my existing eCS system through the installer.
I installation would hang (clock and all processes stopped) near
the end of the Phase 1 install.
The DaniS506.ADD driver only recognizes the J-Micron IDE/SATA controller
on the MB. It does not recognize the P7P55 SATA 2.0 controller built into
the MB chipset. This controllerhas six (6) SATA 2.0 connectors. The driver
does not recognize the Marvell controller, which has two (2) SATA 3.0
connectors. The J-Micron controller has only one (1) SATA connector
and it is SATA 2.0, not SATA 3.0. Therefore, I had to downgrade my
expectations to SATA 2.0 performance. In addition, I had to use a
USB 2.0 port in the back of the computer to connect my second hard
drive. The USB 3.0 ports did not operate.
Neither the GenMac Wraper or the Realtek version r8110-0.1.3 drivers
work with the MB installed LAN. I will have wait for an updated driver,
or buy and use a supported PCI network card.

Ideas for the developers:

eComStation developer! Keep in mind that eComStation should be your main system: make all work in eCS, using eCS tools. If you start spending 1 hour/day in other system then you stop any development for eComStation..
