I have installed eCS 2.0 rc6a to HP xw4600 workstation. CPU Intel Core 2 Duo, RAM 4 GB, chipset X38/ICH9R, SATA hard drives 2 * 500 GB, Broadcom Gigabit onboard (Netxtreme 5755) ethernet.

Default hard disk setting in BIOS was RAID, but I tried AHCI, with the same results as you described. Third possibility was "IDE emulation". It worked. ACPI is in APIC mode. When broad band was not yet ready, I even had sound with Paul Smedley's version of Uniaud drivers (1.9.11). Now it has gone, I do not know why.

In my case IDE emulation was the solution.
