Invest into eCo Software

eCo Software is working on eComStation / IBM OS/2 Warp market during 10 years. We are specialized in development of native software (or hybrids).

We have so many ideas how to improve eComStation. You can influence on the development and invest into short-term projects:

  • (PM) Replace old Message boxes with Modern Message boxes. To modernize eComStation it's necessary update User Interface. This improvement may refresh the desktop significantly. Experience: We have experience with replacement of File Open Dialog.
  • (WPS) Create new Task list (with large icons), so new users feel comfortable and understand what apps are running. Experience: We have updated Launchpad in the past (Piano Launchpad)
  • (SYSINFO) Migrate assistant - collector of information from old system. We see that users don't have time to migrate to new versions, as result they can't use the latest features. Experience: we have functions aimed to collect system information.
  • (LIP) Language Interface packs (LIP) are aimed to switch system to other language. Important to attract more people from different countries. Experience: We have created several LIP packs.
  • (NET) Improve VNC server/client, make it work faster, improve UI. so the admins can manage remote systems with comfort. Experience: We have experience with video drivers filters, VNC compilation.

Of those applications listed, a good VNC client so that one can run terminal servers is important. For those of us clinging to eCS in other environments/prefer using it at work, terminal servers for administrative chores like travel reimbursement, are gaining increased attention, amongst other things for security reasons. It would be great if I did not have to boot by Win7 partition or go via a virtual PC to get such things done.

Thinking about work as Eirik lifts, I have a long time needed a VPN client to access my work from home. The only one I know for eCS is a ported CLI OpenVPN client which I can't make working, and which is not user friendly. So this would be on my wishlist. I wonder if there exists any Qt4 based VPN clients?

@melf: Injoy can also be used as VPN client

I have tried getting VPN access via InJoy, but has been unsuccessful (and has given up that route). Instead, I have solved the VPN issue running a VirtualPC (Win XP) and use the VPN facility there. With proper sharing of catalogs between the virtual PC and eCS, that works well.

The terminal server access issue, could probably be solved the same way, but then we are talking about too many layers and hence low performance. Which makes access to terminal serves one of the most important issues to have a full fledged eCS working for job purposes.

Wireless and JAVA + proper ACPI operation (FnFX to be able to run presentations to beamers from my eCS) are other musts, but these are not issues ecoSoftware deals with.

I have tried Injoy several times, but have the same experience as Eirik. I never managed to setup a PPTP connection. I also use an XP-setup in VPC as a workaround.
